Big Wiz'
First year Shoot 'em up game
This project was part of our Game Design 2 course where we were asked to create a Shoot ‘em up game. At the start of the course, each randomly assigned group received an initial theme for their project. Ours was Toxic Workplace, which led to us choosing a corporate building as a setting. The protagonist is the evil wizard boss who must fight against the unionized workers.

In this project we were two programming students collaborating. My focus was on the inventory and crafting system. Defeating enemies dropped items which the player collected. These were used to craft new spells which unlock stronger attacks.
For the final version of the game, I was also in charge of creating the level design. That included level layouts and setting up the enemy spawners. One challenging aspect was managing sprite layering for our diagonal perspective.
This was my first larger Unity project, and looking back, I’m very happy with how it turned out. Considering we were in the second semester of our Game Design program and I had only been programming for four months, it must be said that we chose a very ambitious goal. Having four different enemies, ten levels, and ten different spells led us to neglect some aspects, like decorating the levels. Still, I’m very pleased that we managed to finish the project and received lots of positive feedback.
